Now it's your turn to join the squad with the help of our NIFT coaching classes.
Testimonials from our amazing students.
Santhoshi is an alumnus of MAD school, Hyderabad. She got into NIFT Hyderabad and chose her preferred specialization, Accessory Design. Here is an interview with our student who is happy and wants to share their memories and experiences with us.
“It's a place that teaches you how to work in teams because you are exposed to people who are preparing for different entrance exams too and you learn a lot from like everyone over there and the teachers over there are pretty chill, you can just go near them and they are not full strict types how we have in school”
NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) is a leader in fashion education. The Institute was set up in 1986, under the guidance of Ministry of Textiles, Govt of India is a statutory Institute Governed by the NIFT act 2006. The institute focus on imparting to students the latest in technology and innovation in all aspects of integrating the entire value chain from fibre to fabric to fashion for the textile industry. At NIFT, multidisciplinary studies not only prepare the students to solve real-life challenges but also equip them to carve out newer paths for themselves.
Securing admissions towards NIFT is based on all India Entrance exams, conducted by NIFT every year.
All eligible candidates will have to appear for a written entrance examination at the examination centres opted by them.
The written entrance examination is designed to test the knowledge, skill and aptitude of the candidates for the program opted.
However, it is to be noted that certain disciplines require the candidate to appear for a second round of examination as mandated by NIFT.
The selection process takes cognisance of a 100 % meritorious process towards short listing of candidates for various disciplines.
‘Master of Design’ degree caters to this multi-disciplinary and dynamic nature of job profiles that seek professionals who can work in versatile environments. Research is one of the tools that empower one to take up challenges, which may emerge in contemporary complex systems. Therefore, this course builds its specializations based on the foundation of design thinking and research practice.

Students who have completed or are appearing for Class 12 from any recognised board can apply for most undergraduate NIFT programmes, provided they meet the eligibility criteria announced for the admission year. Eligibility requirements may vary depending on the course, so students should always refer to the latest official admission notification.
Yes. Students from all academic streams can prepare for the NIFT entrance exam. The examination evaluates creativity, observation, communication skills, design aptitude, and analytical ability rather than a specific school stream.
Not necessarily. Drawing is important for the Creative Ability Test (CAT), but NIFT also evaluates imagination, visual communication, creativity, observation, and problem-solving. Regular practice can help students improve their sketching skills over time.
Starting in Class 11 gives students more time to build their creativity and design aptitude. However, many students begin in Class 12 and still perform well with focused preparation and consistent practice.
Yes. Many students prepare for both exams simultaneously because they share common areas such as creativity, observation, visualization, sketching, and design aptitude. Additional practice is then given for the specific pattern of each exam.
The course includes Creative Ability Test (CAT) preparation, General Ability Test (GAT) preparation, sketching, visualization, colour theory, design aptitude, creative thinking, perspective drawing, fashion illustration fundamentals, mock tests, previous years' question discussions, and guidance for the next stages of the admission process wherever applicable.
The Creative Ability Test (CAT) evaluates creativity, drawing, visualization, colour sense, and design thinking. The General Ability Test (GAT) assesses English comprehension, communication ability, analytical reasoning, quantitative ability, general knowledge, and current affairs. Both sections are important for B.Des admissions.
Yes. Students receive guidance for the written entrance examination and support for subsequent admission stages applicable to their programme and the current admission process, including practical preparation where required.
Students are assessed through regular assignments, sketching exercises, CAT and GAT practice tests, creative projects, mock examinations, and personalised feedback sessions.
Yes. Faculty members provide personalised feedback to help students improve sketching techniques, creativity, composition, colour application, visual storytelling, and presentation skills.
Absolutely. Many students join MAD School with little or no prior experience in drawing or design. The course is designed to gradually build observation skills, sketching confidence, creativity, design aptitude, and exam readiness from the basics.
MAD School has been training design aspirants for over 15 years and has helped thousands of students secure admissions to leading design institutes across India. Students learn through studio-based classes, creative aptitude training, CAT and GAT preparation, mock tests, personalised mentoring, and regular feedback. The focus is not only on helping students crack the NIFT entrance exam but also on preparing them for life in design school.
Consistency is more important than the number of hours. Most students benefit from one to three hours of focused daily practice, along with regular sketching, CAT and GAT preparation, and mock tests.
MAD School offers weekday and weekend batches that help students balance their school studies with NIFT preparation. Many students successfully prepare for both board examinations and design entrance exams simultaneously.
Yes. Students and parents can contact MAD School to enquire about demo classes, counselling sessions, or classroom interactions before enrolling.
Students can join throughout the year based on the available batch schedule. Whether you start early or closer to the entrance exam, our faculty helps you join a suitable batch according to your preparation level.
MAD School offers long-term, one-year, short-term, weekend, and crash courses depending on the student's academic year, preparation level, and target entrance examination. During counselling, mentors recommend the most suitable programme for each student.
Neither exam is easier—they simply test different abilities. NIFT places significant emphasis on creativity, design aptitude, visual communication, and general ability, while NID focuses more heavily on creativity, observation, and design thinking. Students should choose the exam that aligns with their interests and prepare according to its specific pattern.
Students should regularly practise:
Human figures and fashion poses
Everyday objects
Perspective drawing
Memory drawing
Colour rendering
Storyboarding
Product sketching
Fashion illustration basics
Hands, facial expressions, and gestures
Creative composition and visual storytelling
Regular practice improves confidence, speed, and presentation during the Creative Ability Test.
Yes. Students receive structured study materials, CAT and GAT practice sheets, assignments, creative exercises, previous years' question discussions, mock tests, and regular faculty feedback to strengthen their preparation.
Some common mistakes include:
Focusing only on sketching and ignoring GAT.
Neglecting current affairs and general knowledge.
Not practising under timed conditions.
Ignoring colour application and composition.
Skipping previous years' papers and mock tests.
Not seeking feedback on creative work.
Starting preparation too late.
A balanced approach that combines CAT preparation, GAT practice, sketching, creativity, and mock tests usually produces the best results.
There isn't a single "best" specialisation at NIFT. The right choice depends on your interests, strengths, and long-term career goals. Students interested in clothing and apparel often choose Fashion Design, while those interested in branding, advertising, and digital media may prefer Fashion Communication. Students who enjoy materials and product development may choose Textile Design, Accessory Design, Leather Design, or Knitwear Design. During counselling at MAD School, mentors help students understand each specialisation and choose the one that best matches their interests and career aspirations.
Yes. During counselling, mentors help students understand different NIFT programmes such as Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, Textile Design, Knitwear Design, Accessory Design, Leather Design, Fashion Technology, and other specialisations so they can choose a course that aligns with their interests and career goals.
No. While Fashion Design is one of NIFT's most well-known programmes, the institute also offers courses in Fashion Communication, Textile Design, Accessory Design, Leather Design, Knitwear Design, Fashion Technology, and other specialised fields. Graduates go on to build careers in branding, retail, marketing, visual merchandising, digital design, product development, and many other creative industries.
A NIFT degree can open doors to a wide range of creative careers beyond fashion design. Depending on your specialisation, graduates can pursue roles such as Fashion Designer, Fashion Communication Designer, Textile Designer, Accessory Designer, Knitwear Designer, Leather Designer, Fashion Stylist, Visual Merchandiser, UI/UX Designer, Graphic Designer, Retail Manager, Fashion Buyer, Trend Forecaster, Costume Designer, Luxury Brand Consultant, Product Developer, Entrepreneur, and many more. NIFT graduates work with leading fashion brands, retail companies, design studios, e-commerce businesses, media houses, and global lifestyle brands, while many also choose to start their own fashion or design ventures.
